NewFRS
Version 1.13
Please Read These Instructions
Completely Before Proceeding!
Introduction
The
file NEW113.EXE contains version 1.13 of NewFRS. In conjunction with
this version of NewFRS, ALL workstations utilizing First Resort, including
any workstations running interfaces (such as the call accounting interface,
credit card interface, point of sale interface, hospitality interface,
or online booking interface) and any workstations in remote offices which
load First Resort from their local hard drive should also be upgraded
to Avmain version 10.02. It may be necessary to make changes to wwwstart.bat,
ccserver.bat, phone.bat and similar batch files used by interface PCs
to automatically start the First Resort interface. There have
recently been changes to the file locking scheme used by avmain. If you
are upgrading from version 9.83 or older, be sure to read the following
and make the appropriate changes in the H,H,E screen upon upgrading to
version 10.02. Users of the First Resort Report Generator module will
also need to update to Report Generator v1.42. Contact First Resort Support
if you have any questions about this upgrade!
This version
is supported on Novell, Windows NT, or Windows Peer-to-Peer networks. In
all operating environments, it is especially important to ensure the proper
type of record locking is implemented. You can view and set the record
locking type in H,H,E from the Application Selection Menu. An example of
that screen when it is first accessed is below:
Once the
proper values have been established in each field, press F10 to validate
them. The seventh and eighth field values are not accessible until an
initial validation has been done.
- If the network type is
'W' for Windows NT or Windows Peer-to-Peer, the validation process is
complete and you are returned to the 'Set Hardware Options' screen. Pressing
F10 again will return you to the First Resort login screen in order to
allow the values established on the H,H,E screen to take effect.
- If the network type is
'N' for Novell, then the screen is re-drawn and field values for the
'Use Novell TTS' and 'Use Novell Print Queues' appear. These fields are
used to turn on features specific to Novell networks. Both fields should
be set to 'Y' on Novell networks. A final validation may then be performed
by pressing the F10 key a second time and you will be returned to the
'Set Hardware Options' screen. Press F10 on this screen to return to
the First Resort login screen in order to allow the values established
on the H,H,E screen to take effect.
If
you have never previously installed First Resort onto your system,
the screen below will appear upon loading the program for the first
time:
- In the first
field enter N if your network type is Novell, or W if it is Windows
NT or Windows Peer-to-Peer.
- In the second field enter
a Y for Novell Print Queues if your network type is Novell, or an N if
it is Windows NT or Windows Peer-to-Peer.
Upon entering
the correct value in the Novell Print Queues field, the screen will change
to this screen:
Enter today's
date, then enter an E in the System Locking Type field if your network
type is Novell, or an M if it is Windows NT or Windows Peer-to-Peer.
Upon successful
completion of these initial setup screens you will be taken to the First
Resort login screen.
As always, please
be especially careful to perform daily backups of your system!

for NewFRS
- Workstation setups.
Click on Start >Settings >Control Panel.
- Is TCP/IP
enabled? Click on Network. See if there is a TCP/IP protocol.
- If
no TCP/IP protocol is found, then a hardware vendor
should be contacted to install the protocol.
- If
you find a TCP/IP protocol, highlight it and then click
on the 'properties' tab. Next click on the IP Address
tab. For the TCP/IP to be enabled there must be a TCP/IP
protocol that has a specified IP address.
- Close
the TCP/IP Properties window.
- A 32bit ODBC
Data Source must be installed on each workstation that will
be running NewFRS. It should be one of the items listed in
the control panel. If it is not present, it can be downloaded
from ftp://support.firstres.com/ftp. This self-extracting
zip file is called ODBC30.exe. Please read the NewFRS User
Guide found at the bottom of this document for further instruction
for creating the 32 bit ODBC System DSN link.
- Is there
a 32bit Client installed on each workstation that will be
running NewFRS? While you are still in Network, check to
see what client is the primary network logon. Note for Items
numbered 4 and 5 below- Network Types. What type is it?
- 32-bit
Microsoft Client
- 32-bit
Novell Client
- Close
the Network window.
- Is the desktop
display area set to no less than 800x600? Click on display.
Then click on the setting tab to determine the current setting.
- Novell Server setup.
Long file names must be activated on the file server. It is best
that a hardware vendor activate this.

a version of 10.02 or greater of AVMAIN is active. Go to the log
on screen of AVMAIN (DOS)First Resort. Look just above the business
code to see the version number.
- Log in, go into
H,H,E and check the entry for 'Network Type'. It must be either:
a) N - For Novell networks. b) W - For Windows NT/2000 or Peer-to-Peer
networks or standalone PCs.
Procedures for Downloading
and Installing NewFRS
- Download file 'NEW113.EXE.'
into a temporary directory such as C:\TEMP. This file is 23MB in size.
- Is PC Anywhere working
successfully? Verify that key system users know how to activate and test.
This will allow First Resort to dial into the system if any problems
arise.
- Get to a Windows 95/98
Taskbar: Select START from the taskbar, then RUN.
- Type C:\TEMP\NEW113.EXE
[or use the browse button to locate the folder where you saved the file,
then double click on the file]. Click on the OK button. Answer 'Yes'
to the prompt 'This will install NewFRS. Do you wish to continue?'
- You will be prompted
to input a password. To obtain the password, contact First Resort
Support. Once the correct password is entered, click on the OK button.
The download file will now begin to extract version 1.13.
- Read the introductory
screens, clicking on the 'Next' button when appropriate. Close any Windows
programs, and select NEXT. You will be prompted to enter your name and
your company name. When completed, select NEXT. Now you should enter
the location where the software will be installed. The installation utility
will default to F:\accounts. Select BROWSE to change the destination
directory or select NEXT to continue [Note: If you have a Windows
NT or Peer-to-Peer network, make sure you are aware of the path to the
First Resort data directory relative to the workstation you are using.
If you are performing this installation on a Windows NT Server or the
Host PC of a Peer-to-Peer network the First Resort data directory will
be found on the C drive; from a workstation in either of these network
environments the First Resort data directory will typically be found
on the F drive]. You will be prompted for the Program Folder next.
The installation utility will default to First Resort Software. Select
NEXT to continue. Your current settings will be displayed, and if all
information is correct select NEXT to begin the actual installation.
Once the copying is complete, icons will be created in the Program Folder
specified earlier. Some users may see the error "the following file(s)
failed to Self Register; c:\Program Files\Common Files\system\ole db\MSDAPS.DLL;
C\Program Files\Common Files\system\old db\MSDSQL.DLL" If this error
occurs, simply click OK to clear the error. It is dependent upon previous
installations of NewFRS and does not affect the installation's successful
completion.
- Select FINISH to complete
the setup. The InstallShield will exit. Note: you may get the following
message: 'Setup Complete: Setup has finished installing the software
on your computer. Before you can use the program, you must restart Windows
or your computer.' You will need to choose between:
