Rebuilding Availability To

rebuild availability, click here.
An availability rebuild can take anywhere from 5
minutes to 24+ hours to complete. The number of units,
the number of reservations, the number of usage periods,
and the speed of the hardware are all components in the
answer to the question "how long will it take to rebuild
availability". It is important to recognize the steps
that rebuilding availability goes through in order to
determine how close it is to being complete.
Everyone must be out of reservations and properties
in order for availability to be rebuilt - generally it
is best to simply ask all users to exit from that
business code. This means that rebuilding availability
should not be done in the middle of the day when the
reservation lines are ringing steadily. After getting
everyone out of that business code, press 'S' for
Availability and Rate Setup Functions, then 'B'
to Build the Availability Table. The next screen
that appears shows the availability start date (set up
from menu options 'S', 'I') and the options to rebuild
will present a warning message stating that no
reservations can be made during the rebuild, pressing an
"*" after the message appears will allow the rebuild to
begin. Pressing RETURN will take you back to the
Availability and Rate Setup menu. The software
will go through the following 5 steps to rebuild
availability:
- The RSAbbb.FIL and the RSAbbb.IDX will be rebuilt.
When this is done...
- The message "Flagging the usage table" will appear
in the upper left corner of the screen. This goes
through each unit for each date range defined in the
availability usage period table (S,A,A). When this is
done...
- The message "Clearing availability table" will
appear in the upper left corner of the screen. This
process will go through each unit one time. When this
is done...
- The message "Building availability table" will
appear in the upper left corner of the screen. This
process is the one that takes the longest time to
complete. It will go through the reservation file in
arrival within property code order. The message in the
upper left hand corner will alternate between "Add
stay to XXXXX" and "Update usage from XXXXX" where
XXXXX is the unit number/property code. In other
words, when you can see the property codes that begin
with a Z, you're almost done! When this is done...
- The message "Scanning the usage table" will appear
in the upper left corner of the screen. This goes
through each unit for each date range defined in the
availability usage period table.
Other Details: There are two known instances
that cause availability to go into a loop. One of them
is having an incorrect lockoff chain and the other is to
have a valid reservation with a corrupted property code
field.
Tip on how to speed up an availability
rebuild: Prior to the rebuild, delete any
old availability usage periods (in S,A,A) before
starting.
