Using Soft Blocks to Hold a Property for a Short Period of Time

Summary:

Clients may sometimes want to "hold" a property for a guest prior to booking a reservation. They can do this for any number of reasons, but a quick and easy way to accomplish this is to use soft blocks to block the property. The soft block will warn you if you are booking into a "hold" property plus it will automatically drop the hold after a specified period of time (1 day, 7 day etc.).

Procedures:

The client should have a HOLD Soft Block Master set up that spans a wide date range. The set up is in R for Reservations, O for Other Functions, B for Add or Edit Soft blocks, M for Soft Block Master. The master should look like this:

Once the master is set-up, a soft block detail must be set up for each property you are wanting to hold. The soft block detail is set up in R for Reservations, O for Other, B for Add or Edit Soft blocks and E to edit detail . After entering the property to hold and the soft block master ID you will the get following screen. The example below is for a 24 hour hold on a reservation from July 2 to July 5 for Property BUSH made on June 16, 1995.

The block will show up on the availability screen as a HOLD when you check the availability for that property through R and C. Once the system date has passed the visibility dates on the block detail , the block will automatically drop from the availability screen.

NOTE: You can run reports on the blocks that have been set up. To get a list of blocks if needed, you would run reports from R, O, B and R for reports.
